JDownloader is a download manager, written in Java, which allows automatic download of groups of files from one-click hosting sites. JDownloader supports the use of premium accounts.[1] Some parts, but not all, of JDownloader are open source. In December 2009 the program's website was in the top 1000 visited websites of Spain.[2] The German online magazine, Chip.de designated it "newcomer of the year" in 2009, after it ranked among the top 50 most downloaded applications, with over half a million downloads in a year.[3]
Mid-2012 there were complaints that JDownloader's installer added adware without the user's consent.[4] The JDownloader installation contains adware according to several sources, including the developer's own forums.[5][6] There were further complaints mid-2014.
In June 2013, JDownloader's ability to download copyrighted and protected RTMPE streams was considered illegal by a German court. This feature was never provided in an official build, but was supported by a few nightly builds.[7]
In 2011, JDownloader was superseded by its successor, JDownloader 2. While support for the original JDownloader still exists on forums, the official site only lists JDownloader 2.

License[edit]

Contrary to the license, some source files are not publicly available. The developers stated that the license may change—the program will remain open source, but will get a license which allows closed-source parts.[citation needed]

Features[edit]

Specified features:[8]
  • Versions run under (Microsoft WindowsLinuxMac, etc.), and Java 1.5 or higher
  • Can download several files simultaneously, over several connections
  • Can automatically solve some CAPTCHAs with its own OCR module (JAntiCaptcha)
  • Automatic extractor (including password list search) for RAR archives
  • Decrypt RSDF, CCF and DLC Container files
  • About 300 decrypt plugins for many services. For example, sj.org, UCMS, WordPress, and RLSLog.
  • Supports "hoster plugins" for downloading from e.g. a specific one-click hoster (1230 as of 2014)[9]
  • Can automatically acquire a new IP address to save waiting time with hosts which limit downloads to one address (1400 routers supported)
  • Integrated package manager for additional modules (e.g., Web interface, Shutdown)
  • Theme support
  • Multilingual
The user-specified download links are split into packages to enable individual pausing and continuing of downloads. The program can be configured to unpack split RAR archives automatically after all parts have been downloaded.
JDownloader supports "waiting time" and CAPTCHA recognition on many file hosting sites, enabling batch downloads without user input.[10] Premium users of one-click-host sites can use multiple connections per downloaded file, which increases download speed in most cases. It also supports Metalink, a format for listing multiple mirrors. Software updates and minor patches are released frequently; by default JDownloader updates itself upon initialization. As of 2014 JDownloader uses a continuous deployment system where modifications to the program code (e.g. adapting a plugin to changes in a download site's HTTP API) can be released within minutes.[9] For the beta version, frequently occurring errors in plugins are detected via automated error reports (leaving out some privacy-sensitive data including the user's IP address and the name of the downloaded file).[9]

Overview
Compatible with your device

when activated, interrupts the built-in download manager to direct links to JDownloader
This extension offers integration with JDownloader (a Java-based download manager). By default the toolbar icon is disabled. In this mode, downloads are handled by the internal download manager. Once the extension is enabled from the toolbar button (when the icon is colorful), then an observer is installed. This observer monitors new downloads and sends requests to JDownloader and cancels the built-in downloads. It is also possible to use right-click over links option to send links to JDownloader without installing the download observer.

Notes:
1. For the extension to work you need to have JDownloader installed; http://jdownloader.org/
2. For the extension to be able to start JDownloader and communicate with it, a small native client is required. This native client can be found at https://github.com/belaviyo/native-client/releases. You will get the

Download managers have a rather different role than a few years back. They used to be about using simultaneous downloads to max out a weedy dialup connection, but with the majority of people enjoying high-speed broadband, this is less important. Now the focus is rather different.

Developer: AppWork
Operating system: Windows, Mac, Linux
Version: 2
JDownloader is a free, open source tool that makes it quicker and easier to download files from hosting sites. This means that the likes of Mega, Rapidshare and so on are no longer a pain – even if they feature irritations such as CAPTCHAS and time limits before download links can be clicked. JDownloader can automate the entire process for you – just provide the initial link and everything else will taken care of for you. Downloads can be paused and resumed, transfers can be scheduled, and as an added bonus the program is available for multiple platforms.
ADVERTISING
The download of JDownloader itself is a bit annoying because the installer is hosted on Mega, and is supplied in RAR format. Mega tries to get you to install its own download software, and not everyone will have the software required to decompress the RAR file. On top of this, the installer tries to coax you into install Avast Antivirus software; it might be a great security tool, but bundleware like this is never welcome.

User experience

While JDownloader may initially look a little intimidating, in practice it's wonderfully simple to use. A clipboard monitor means that as soon as you copy a URL it is automatically analysed and added to the program. Thanks to this, you can set about collecting a large number of links and set them to download in one batch.
JDownloader is a real time saver thanks to the number of things it can automate for you, and the remote access option is a very nice touch for monitoring large downloads while away from your computer. Reducing hosted file downloads to a single click is praise-worthy indeed.

Latest updates

The latest version of JDownloader features improved performance and several minor bug fixes. For full details, see the JDownloader change log.
